Who We Are
Founded in 1907, Chenango County SPCA (CCSPCA) is a nationally recognized, open-admission animal shelter that provides care for lost and homeless pets, adopts pets to new homes, and educates families and the community about the needs of companion animals. CCSPCA serves primarily the residents and animals of Chenango County and the surrounding communities.

Our Rich History
1907 - Chenango County Humane Society receives incorporation papers on March 11 for the prevention of cruelty to both children and animals.
1957- Purchased land on River Road to house shelter (former site at 5557 County Road 32, Norwich)
1960 - CCSPCA receives a new 1961 animal ambulance through anonymous donor from California.
1980's - Roz Scheurman begins her 18 year tenure at the CCSPCA. Her accomplishments during her time are considered numerous including physical plant improvements such as two additions to house cats and dogs, humane education in the schools, policy development and securing community support.
1985 - Anna S. Judd Cat Addition (12x26 foot extension)
1986 - Dedication of The Gene Ireland Educational Center
1991 - Junior Volunteer Program started
1991 - New Kennel Addition to old shelter located at 5557 County Road 32 at Polkville Hill Rd Eviction Notice by State; marks new era on Nov 6 with new location at 6160 County Road 32, Norwich.
2004 - Dorothy L. Evans Nature Trail & Pet Memorial Wall created
2005 - First year of fundraising event: Valentine Fur Ball
2005 - CCSPCA hires new Executive Director, Carol J. Hedlund
2006 - CCSPCA holds strategic planning session in April
2006 - Hedlund assists ASPCA in rescuing animals from local flood
2007 - New education center, The Mary Elizabeth Macksey Humane Center
